May 16 International Day of Light

Let there be light and there would be Life... The Snout saw light at the end of the tunnel, he walked a long time with the other snouts, they helped each other, they cooperated in the dark, then little by little they started to see...

Under the auspices of UNESCO, this day celebrates cooperation and scientific progress in the study of light. From the first Optical Book, Kitab al-Manazir dating from 1015, by Ibn Al-Haytham, to more recent essays, the study of light has led us to see up to the very creation of our universe. May 16 was chosen as a tribute to the first successful laser operation by physicist Theodore Maiman.
